For January's Anime Club meeting, on January 23rd at 5pm, I will be hosting an Omamori Charm workshop where you will make your own good luck amulets like the ones they sell at Shinto and Buddhist shrines for the new year. I will also be teaching about the differences in cultural observances of the new year in Japan vs the United States.
The new year in Japan is observed from the 1st to the 7th, when the Kami leaves on the 7th. The Omamori are usually purchased during the first seven days of the new year. But, even though our workshop is on the 23rd, you can still make your own Omamori and carry it around for the year.
The following weekend is Setsucon at the Blair County Convention Center in Altoona, PA. It's an event we highly recommend to any fan of Anime, Manga, Video Games, or even tabletop games like D&D as they have added a Tabletop Gaming event this year. Don't miss it!
